Friday, September 7:
• 6pm - Registration and setup for "Cover the Walls and Tech Solutions Expo" Student, faculty, staff, and theatre professionals- SHOW US YOUR DESIGN WORK! Open invitation to exhibit work and share with fellow artists!
• 7pm -Dinner and Socializing join us for dinner- included in the registration fee.
• 8pm - Northern Boundary Membership Meeting.
- Introduction to sustainability in theatre work with Minnesota Theatre Alliance.
• 9:45pm -Bonfire at Park Point Hosted by UMD Usitt Student Chapter OR Harbor Cruise on Lake Superior (included in registration fee).
Saturday, September 8:

*His and Hers Period Patterning: A Look at His Trousers and Her Corset
Laura Piotrowski, UMD
A look at drafting a pair of men's pants from Louis Devere's The Handbook of Practical Cutting (1866) and an introduction to corsets from Jill Salen's book Corsets: Historic Patterns and Techniques
*Photoshop Rendering Techniques
Curtis Phillips, UMD
A hands on session introducing Photoshop as a tool for rendering. If you don’t have Photoshop on your laptop, consider downloading the free 30 day trial. Bring your own laptop.
*LED’s and You
Seth Scott, Monkey Wrench Productions
Take a look at the ins and outs of the ever changing new technology of LED’s and how you can use them in your productions. This session will provide an overview on how LED’s work; why they save energy, money, and hassle; and how to use this technology in your space. Demo units from top manufactures will be on hand for playtime!
*Advanced Qlab Programming: Going Beyond the Fade Cue Jake Davis, Intermedia Arts
In this session we'll cover tips, skills, and best practices for the professional Qlab programmer. We'll demonstrate vamping cues, explain to purpose of groups and when to use the different modes. Can't seem to get a smooth fade out? We'll show how to adjust Qlab to the noise floor of your theater and how to modify the fade shape. Then we'll show you how to use applescript to setup programming macros to increase your speed. Other topics will include: Naming conventions, file formats, multi-channel sound files and multiple cue lists. This session assumes that you have a basic familiarity with Qlab and already know your way around the interface.
*Tour of Masonic Temple
Wendy Waszut-Barrett
Examine a primary source and then replicate it! Join Wendy Waszut-Barrett as she explains historical scene painting techniques while examining these primary sources. Follow up by testing your skill in the afternoon at the “Historical Scene Painting” session.

*Visualizing Make up
Pat Dennis, UMD
A hands on session aimed at developing finished make up sketches. You will spend time considering each aspect of the makeup design as it pertains to each individual face. Headshots, tracing paper, and colored pencils provided.
*Creating Welcoming Spaces
Caitlin Milligan Sheaffer, Mixed Blood Theatre
So many theater spaces and resources go unused because there aren't good systems in place to promote sharing. Hear from industry professionals about how to create spaces that can be shared.
*MPAC Theatre Renovation
Jody Kovalick, Schuler Shook & Anthony Moore, SECOA
Open discussion of the design, planning, and construction process for the renovation of theatre systems at the Marshall Performing Arts Center as we examine the space and the work that was done. The focus will be on the new theatrical dimming and rigging systems installed in both the Marshall and Dudley Theatre spaces.
*Vendor Roundtable
Seth Scott, Monkey Wrench Productions
This is your chance to ask dealers and manufactures rep the “hard questions” about products pros and cons, why manufacturers do certain things, or how the industry works from the manufacturer, vendor, rep and sales side of things. This is an open discussion about whatever you want to talk about. You will be given real answers that you can use, not a sales pitch. We will help you understand how to afford new lighting or work with manufacturers for demo equipment to test in your space. Ask questions about converting from analog to digital audio. Find out what vendors need from you to get you the best price on products. These are just some of the topics that we could touch on, so please bring your questions.
*Historical Scene Painting: Creating Draperies and Ornamentation"

This is the follow up to the morning Masonic Temple Tour. In this hands on session you will put to use the scene painting techniques examined in the morning. All materials provided.
